By car to the "Schlicher Heide" sports ground in Schlich, where the start and end point of the approximately 10 km circular hike through the Meroder Forest are located. This is part of the High Fens - Eifel National Park and adjoins the Hürtgen Forest to the north. The "Laufenburg", which dates back to the 12th century and is now run as an estate with restaurants, is a tourist destination.

Shortly before the end of the circular hike on easily accessible paths, we pass the idyllically situated "Marienbildchen" military cemetery, which commemorates the many war victims at the end of the last world war with over 200 dead buried there. Backpack provisions, but not absolutely necessary as you can stop for refreshments in Laufenburg.
