Welcome to Satzvey Castle! Twice a year, in spring and autumn, the beautiful moated castle near Mechernich invites you to its legendary knights' festival. Immerse yourself in the medieval market hustle and bustle on the 4.5-hectare castle grounds, admire the various goods and crafts of the 70 or so traders, and fortify yourself with home-made food and drink. Minstrels, jugglers and storytellers, knights' camps and proud knights on horseback will amaze young and old alike. For over 40 years now, Satzvey Castle has been transporting visitors of all ages into a medieval world, into the time of love and romance. The first documented mention of the castle dates back to 1396, and it is even assumed that the foundation walls are even older. For over 300 years, the building has been in the family possession of the Counts Beissel von Gymnich, who maintain the monument according to the guiding principle "preservation through maintenance" and present it to the public. Today, Satzvey Castle is internationally renowned for this skilful interplay of monument preservation and presentation of living history. Since 2012, the daughter of the house, Patricia Countess Beissel, has been responsible for family-friendly events and an appealing programme throughout the year. This also applies to the traditional knight festivals, the highlight of which is undoubtedly the great show of the knights of Satzvey Castle. The team of knights, consisting of horsemen, actors and stuntmen, has been known for its impressive live shows for many years and ensures an enthusiastic audience here too with its mixture of theatre and action scenes.
