St. Vincentius Kirche Heidweiler

Heidweiler

There is a nice legend about the church in Heidweiler. In the lower village the building of St. Vincentinus was originally supposed to be built. The people of Heidweiler took the building materials there, but when they arrived at the construction site the next morning, the material was gone. It lay on a hill south of the village. The little game was repeated several times and finally the parishioners decided to build the church on the spot where the material kept appearing. The church built in 1416 still stands there today. It is one of the oldest in the Heckenland and once had a large catchment area with Greverath, Dierscheid, Rodenerden, Dodenburg, Heckenmünster and Bergweiler. Worth seeing are the art nouveau paintings and the high altar with rococo carvings of the church, which was renovated with great commitment of the citizens. The choir was built in 1644. The high altar is the former side altar of a church from Piesport. The church was renovated in the 20th century. Above the baptismal font is the coat of arms of the counts from Dodenburg, who used to come to Heidweiler to celebrate mass. The organ was restored in 2002, its patron saint is Saint Vincent.
