Blankenheim

With their fine proboscises, colourful butterflies sip juice from a sliced pineapple. Then the gentle creatures waft away into the foliage of the plants in the butterfly house. Between these, blue Morpho butterflies elegantly move through the air with sparing wing beats.

A few steps further on, the wonderful world of the butterflies begins. Sometimes calm and graceful, sometimes flying in nosedives, the colourful butterflies float around. Ahrhütte is now home to around twenty species, including blue Morpho butterflies from Costa Rica, Asian Papilio, greedy owl butterflies and monarch butterflies from the Canaries. Tendency: increasing. Up to 500 butterflies are to move to Ahrhütte, over thirty species from Asia and South and Central America, as well as native butterflies.

At the centre of the facility, a waterfall splashes from a three metre high stone structure and runs off into a seven metre long, curving stream. Outside, a botanical garden is open from 1 May to 1 October every year. Special events such as art competitions for children and teens as well as art exhibitions are held there. Cultural events are held there too.

The Eifalia butterfly garden is entirely barrier-free and offers numerous opportunities to sit down in the tropical house.
Dogs are not allowed in the tropical house but they are allowed everywhere outside.
