Awarded the title "Quality Hiking Trail Wanderbares Deutschland", this approximately 8-kilometre-long EifelSpur leads past the hotspots of the Roman town of Zülpich on the northern edge of the Eifel. The entire route is barrier-free and easily accessible with a baby carriage.

The Roman town of Zülpich
Zülpich, or rather Tolbiacum, as it was known in Roman times, looks back on an impressive history. The small town with a great history was founded by the Romans in the 1st century BC and quickly became an important trading hub in the Roman Empire. Many Roman long-distance routes crossed here. But that was not all. In the 2nd century BC, the Romans also built a thermal bath complex here.

Good to know: Fascinating insights into the Roman thermal baths and an overview of the history of bathing can be gained by visiting the only German museum of bathing culture in Zülpich.

The route at a glance
The EifelSpur starts at the picturesque Seepark Zülpich, which was originally created by the recultivation of the open-cast mine. The tour leads along the lakeshore into the historic town center of Zülpich. Past the completely preserved town wall, the Zülpicher Landesburg castle, the four town gates and many other historic buildings, you will immerse yourself in the history of Zülpich. The cafés and restaurants in the town center are perfect for a short break. Simply take a seat and soak up the beautiful scenery. Thanks to the wonderful green spaces and parks, you are guaranteed to enjoy nature too. The castle playground at Wallgraben has a slide, swings and climbing equipment, providing plenty of space for little adventure fans to let off steam. Impressive views can be enjoyed from the tower of the medieval castle. Afterwards, you return to the lake.
