EifelRadSchleife 7 "Wo Ritter Feste feiern"
Mechernich
This EifelRadSchleife is perfect for nature lovers who want to combine a challenging cycle tour in the Eifel with nature and sights. The start and finish point is Mechernich, where there are plenty of opportunities to reward yourself after the tour.
The route leads across fields, forests and meadows, sometimes on rough ground in a hilly topography. A varied landscape awaits you and benches invite you to linger and enjoy the view.
Halfway along the route is Satzvey Castle, which is an ideal place to take a break in a medieval atmosphere with its restaurants and castle bakery. A short detour to Veynau Castle and/or Kommern Castle is also worthwhile, although they can only be visited from the outside.
Kommern with its historic town center invites you to take a stroll. Here you will find the largest closed half-timbered ensemble in the Rhineland, the castle from the 15th to 18th centuries, the neo-Gothic church and many places to stop for a bite to eat. Behind the Mühlensee lake is the Mühlental recreation and generation park with leisure facilities for every generation.
The uniform signposting system consists of red junction signs and information signs at all important junctions and crossroads, providing a perfect orientation system along the way.
Junctions on the route: 90, 55, 86, 3, 87, 88, 90
Tip: From September to mid-November, a large pumpkin show with impressive pumpkin sculptures made from over 100,000 pumpkins takes place at the Krewelshof.
The Krewelshof in Mechernich-Obergartzem can be reached quickly via a short detour.
