Eifel-Blick "Hühnerberg"

Blankenheim

This view of the Eifel (533 metres above sea level) offers views of many Eifel mountains, such as the Kelberg, Boxberg, Eselsberg and Stromberg. In good weather, you can see the grandstands of the Nürburgring from here. In silence you might even think you can hear the sound of engines.

A wonderful view is offered from here over the Ahr valley and the nature experience area Upper Ahr valley. A few kilometres away from this Eifel view are the recreational facilities around the Freilinger Lake and the state-approved resort of Blankenheim. In addition to the many Eifel mountains, the Eifel-Blick Hühnerberg points to the castle ruins of Schloßthal, a former larger castle complex from the Middle Ages, now popularly known as the "Finger of God". The castle complex was inhabited until the middle of the 15th century.

The Stromberg which can be seen from here is of volcanic origin. In the area of the Freilinger See holiday and leisure facilities, only a few kilometres from here, there are a variety of leisure activities on offer: Boating, diving, fishing, surfing, renting barbecue facilities or just relaxing. The 5-star camping site "Eifel Camp Freilingen" is located directly next to Lake Freilingen. Opposite the campsite, the municipality of Blankenheim is planning to build a holiday home complex with appropriate supply buildings, leisure facilities and a restaurant and accommodation business.

It is a journey back in time to the world of the cloth industry. In 1961, factory owner Kurt Müller closed the doors of his cloth factory in the Eifel, hoping to reopen it soon. This did not come true, but today visitors can take a unique tour of a factory where robust woollen fabrics and loden cloth were produced for many years. They are immersed in the world of dyeing and weaving and experience how some of the machines are brought back to life during a guided tour and how people used to work here.
