City-Outlet and historic Bad Münstereifel

Bad Münstereifel

Bad Münstereifel is a historically grown romantic town with picturesque half-timbered houses and the City Outlet, whose attractive shops invite you to shop and many cosy cafés and restaurants. The historic town centre is completely listed and is enclosed by a medieval town wall that is very well preserved. The Erft flows right through Bad Münstereifel, making it even more picturesque. All around lie the extensive wooded hills of the Hohes Venn - Eifel Nature Park.

The most picturesque outlet centre
In Bad Münstereifel, the decision was made to integrate the various shops into the old town centre. By using various historic buildings in the town, an atmospheric shopping paradise was created with, on the one hand, outlet shops where you can buy clothes, shoes and much more at attractive discounts and, on the other hand, special shops such as the "House of Hats", which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2020. Here you will find hats, caps, but also scarves and gloves for young and old.

Relaxing in the park
Just outside the city walls are 2 parks: the Kurpark am Wallgraben and the Schleidtal. The spa park is a lovely place to sit on a bench and simply unwind. Bad Münstereifel is an official Kneipp spa. This means that you can 'wassertreten', or walk, through a pool of water. The Kneipp method is named after Sebastian Kneipp, a priest who in the 19th century propagated the beneficial effects of nature, such as hot and cold water, but also sunlight and healthy air. Kneipp promotes blood circulation. In the Schleidtal valley, a visit to the park with the fallow deer is worthwhile. It is accessible free of charge 24 hours a day. Since there is no fence between the visitors and the animals, it can happen that a whole pack suddenly gallops across the footpath. By the way: fallow deer are very good climbers, so the steep slopes in the park are no problem at all.

Printen
In Bad Münstereifel, juicy, soft and spicy Printen creations are made - delicious Printen are baked in the traditional stone oven in the Printenmanufaktur, which can be eaten directly in the café. Of course, there are also delicious cakes on offer.

Learn more about the history
The history of Bad Münstereifel is clearly visible in the beautiful half-timbered houses, the town wall with the town gate and all the other old buildings. Every Saturday at 2:30 pm you can take part in a guided tour (in German) of the most important monuments. The experienced guide knows all the special places and anecdotes.

Many circular walks
Bad Münstereifel is surrounded by hills with extensive forests. A hike on the "Eifelspur Kräuterpfad" (Eifel herb trail) between Bad Münstereifel and Nettersheim is a good way to get to know the local herbs. On the 15 km Kneipp hiking trail you will learn everything about the holistic philosophy of Sebastian Kneipp. Of course, the walk also takes you through the spa park where you can "tread water". For fantastic views of the Eifel, hike along the 21 km Münstereifelsteig. In addition to a piece of primeval forest where nature is allowed to take its course again, you can also "climb" the 586 m high Michelsberg, which was already a sacrificial site for the Celts, Romans and Germanic tribes. Not only the 100-metre radio telescope on the Effelsberg will amaze technology enthusiasts. Not to be missed on a walk along the "Eifel Loop to the Effelsberg Radio Telescope".

Cycling along the Erft
The Erft, the little river that flows through the middle of Bad Münstereifel's old town, is perfect for cycling. The 110 km long Erft cycle path runs from its source in Nettersheim to where it flows into the Rhine near Neuss. It is advisable to cycle downstream as there are then hardly any differences in altitude. On the first section through the Nordeifel Nature Park, you cycle through a piece of unspoilt nature. The banks are overgrown with dense shrubbery. In Euskirchen, you can take a trip back in time in the old cloth factory of the LVR industrial museum Tuchfabrik Müller. It is always impressive when the old steam engine sets the looms in motion. At the end of the day in Euskirchen, you can take the train back to Bad Münstereifel.
